In 1924, he immigrated to Chile and from there traveled to Bolivia, where he made some five thousand photographs, a selection of which appear as photogravures in his Bolivia, 150 Grabados en Cobre (1928), which was reissued in 1996 by the Fundación Quipus in La Paz. Gerstmann ranged far, photographing the altiplano from La Paz south to the Argentine border, west to the Chilean border, and east to the Yungas, Cochabamba, Santa Cruz, and the lowlands along the Ríos Beni and Mamoré. Only Tarija and the Chaco escaped his lens. Five of his photographs illustrate Stewart E. McMillan's "The Heart of Aymara Land," National Geographic Magazine (February 1927), and several appear in Gustavo-Adolfo Otero's Bolivia (Guía Sinóptica) 1929. Gerstmann settled in Santiago in 1929. He published other photo albums, including Chile: 280 grabados en cobre (1932), Colombia: 200 grabados en cobre (1951), and Chile en 110 cuadros (1960?), and dabbled in film-making in Bolivia. Fantastic Rare Antique Art Nouveau Original Ink Drawing of SALOME in style of AUBREY BEARDSLEY by Kaizo Osawa (1906-1971) Japanese Listed Artist: Signed and dated 1922. Tags: 1920s Painting work on paper
OSAWA went to Tokyo to study at Kawabata Art School at the age of 18 in 1924 (Taisho 14) This piece was drawn in 1922 when he was 16 years old. OSAWA must have been inspired by Aubrey Beardsley with Salome illustrations as Art Nouveau movement influenced Japanese art scenes heavily in late 19th century/early 20th century.
This ink drawing shows calculated and balanced depictions and detailed designs. The darkness of the theme and the thick black ink used both produce a silent yet sure thrill. It measures about 7.5 X 5.3 inches (19 x 13.5 cm).
Normal wears and foxing and agings over years are expected. The ink lines are sharp and edgy. Some pin holes as previously privately owned and displayed, some smears in ink and stains/discolored parts are seen.
OSAWA was one of the noted painters of Showa period in Japan. His work has been displayed in The National Art Museum of Modern Art in Tokyo, Aichi Prefectural Museum of Art, Kariya City Art Museum, Nerima Art Museum and other major Japanese museums. Please enlarge the listed images to examine its conditions.
As art nouveau theme has flown and bloomed in Europe, the-end-of-century art of the time heavily influenced by Beardsley stormed with sensations in the art world of Japan in the beginning of 20th Century. As many Japanese artists studied and practiced with Beardsley style lines and patterns at that time, I wonder Osawa was one of the young stars the-end-of-century art brought its impact upon.

Original Oil on Canvas by Robert Watson
Robert Watson (1923 - 2004), was born in Martinez, Ca. Often referred to as a surrealist and a neo-romanticist, Watson was largely a self-taught artist. In the early 1940s, Robert spent several years in New York City studying the works of the old masters at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and other museums. He later spent eight weeks studying with Frederick Taubes at the University of Wisconsin before moving to Berkeley, where he lived for many years. Influenced by the likes of Guardi, Titian and Canaletto, Watson favored a technique developed by Venetian masters; the underlying of hot color with cold color and vice versa.
