THIS ITEM IS TEMPORARILY NOT AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE. THANK YOU.
This extremely rare and original triptych by Yoshiiku Utagawa (1833-1904), signed in print, titled 'Yamana Hosokawa Kakushitsuno Zu,' was published in May,1860 based on the stamp of Aratame-In with the character for Monkey along with the number 5 in a circle.
The prints depict the famously noted feud of Yamana and Hosokawa in 1400's. Yoshiiku Utagawa's prints are highly collected and documented; however, this rare triptych is not seen in museums and collectors' websites. The only information we could obtain about this triptych is that Asahi News paper in 1999 published the newly discovered collection of Kagaya family with 145 Edo prints, including Yoshiiku's Yamana Hosokawa Kakushitsu no Zu. This triptych is not from their collection, but it could be the new discovery of this triptych. These are not the modern reproductions. They are ready to be framed and displayed.
The colors remain very strong, and they are printed on fine Washi rice paper. The approximate size of EACH print is 9.8 x 14.2 inches.
A few minor stains, foxing, fadings and some agings are seen as well as some of the margins are worn/folded and worm bites are seen. Please expect some wear and creases. The colors may differ slightly from the pics. For its conditions, please enlarge the listed pictures and carefully examine the piece. I have more photos of the item at www.coincidentaldiscovery.com ,so for its condition, please make sure to check those images and enlarge them and carefully examine the piece. These will be carefully rolled for shipping. Please ask questions if any before your purchase.
